In a recent article on emerging pop artist Destenee titled The Fate Of Music, Music Connection Magazine said it best about the 19 year old singer, songwriter, producer and all around musical powerhouse: Every now and then an artist shows up for the whole world to adore. At an age when most young women are singing along to anthems, not blazing cultural trails by creating them, the singer (who uses her real given name) is breaking ground on her pop music career with two explosive tracks from her upcoming debut album that are bound to inspire both her own generation and fans of all ages.
Now is the time to celebrate that moment with Destenee, a multi-cultural force of musical nature whose mix of pop, R&B, strong driven rock and Latin influences reflect her upbringing. The singer's vibe is commercial and mainstream Dance/Rock/R&B while reflecting a cool and enticing international coloring. Destenee's work ethic is purely DIY. In addition to producing the album and composing all the tracks herself, she teamed up with songwriters Deedee O'malley, Danny Sembello, Adaamick Mendoza, Sandy Joyce, and LeDon Smith. Destenee also played piano, guitar and bass on every track.
"Since moving from Boston "I have been working with people like Sterling Davis (Robin Thicke, Une), and Morris Hayes (Prince, Elton John, Lenny Kravitz) who have mentored me and encouraged me to be a musician. Now I have developed my own sound, which is a blend that draws on my background and incorporates a lot of multi-cultural influences. I absolutely love rock and roll and dance music, but my voice is soulful so the combination gets you the Destenee sound"
With a strong presence on myspace, facebook, ilike, tweeter, youtube, reverbnation, jango and other Internet social networks, not only has Destenee garnered coast to coast fans in her US homeland, but she has become nan international sensation as well, invading the radio airwaves with rotation in Europe and Asia. Destenee adds, I realized that I enjoy creating and writing music with positive messages and that if I did what came naturally, I could become the artist I feel destined to be. I'm proud of the fact that I am a musician, composer, and songwriter and not just a vocalist.
Almost as if her birth name was given to her as a calling, Destenee's life has been an ongoing creative and musical whirlwind from the time she taught herself piano at age four. She's performed mostly in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, but also in Massachusetts, DC, Maryland, New Mexico and Arizona. L.A.'s been an especially great proving ground. Destenee has earned raves for her performances at hotspots like the House of Blues, The Roxy, Key Club, Kress, Club Area, The Knitting Factory, Cinespace, Hollywood Palladium, and Staples Center. Adding to the anticipation leading up to her recording debut, she's also built an energized fan base with appearances at over 600 high schools, middle schools, colleges and universities.
Having performed at NAMM and other music conferences, Destenee has earned endorsements with US Music Corp, Shubb, The Bling Jewelry as well as the high fashion clothing line Cowgirl Heaven and the new make-up line Image Cosmetics. Her growing list of accolades includes winning nods at the Las Vegas Music Awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Vocalist.
After studying with several top acting coaches, she also launched her career as an actress with a lead role in Sister Switch, a film by Torrance Colvin to be released later this year.
When I'm writing songs, making music and performing, it gives me the most amazing feeling in the world, and there is nothing like the rush of being onstage and connecting with the fans, she says. Once I'm up there, its all about sharing my joys and pains with the world. I write my own material, so in essence I am opening my heart to people and its wonderful to know that they are receiving it so positively. I look forward to keeping the momentum going.
